2.5 million children have picked up guitars and real instruments after playing music-themed video games, a relief to anxious parents who had feared that their children would turn into computer addicts.
A report conducted by Youth Music in Great Britain found that of the 12 million young people in that country aged from 3 to 18, more than half played music related games. A fifth of those said that they now played an instrument after catching the musical bug from the games.
Young people will take an interest in music if it is presented to them in an compelling way; why bother with a plastic guitar strumming along to someone else playing when you could be doing it yourself?
Guitar manufacturers report that sales of instruments are on the rise and music teachers say that youngsters are taking up music lessons at an unprecedented rate.
Playing a beginners instrument is a good stepping stone for children wanting to learn how to play guitar as it helps to develop a child's hand-eye co-ordination and teaches them to follow a beat. Crucially, it also encourages a general interest in music.
Getting a guitar is actually cheaper than buying a new computer!
Guitars for children and beginners are available from Doug Norton Music online, in-store or via telephone mail-order. Contact either DN Music store and ask about a REAL guitar and lessons for your children.
