Doug Norton Music -- Employment Opportunities
Teaching and Instructional areas
Due to explosive growth, we are accepting applications for anticipated new teaching positions, and for substitute teachers. Teaching experience is not necessary; we will train the right candidate. We are especially looking for candidates who would be interested in summer positions leading group guitar and keyboard classes. This would be an excellent opportunity for a college music major to gain valuable teaching experience.
We are seeking candidates in the following areas:
Guitar -- from beginner to experienced, acoustic, electric, lead, classical, fingerstyle. You need not be experienced in all areas.
Piano -- pop, jazz, improvisational, gospel, classical, and kids piano lessons.
Folk/bluegrass instruments -- Banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer, dobro, autoharp, etc.
Classical strings -- violin, viola, cello, bass.
You must have strong background in your instrument and be able to read music; tablature only does not count.
You must live on the Virginia Peninsula, preferably in Poquoson or lower York County, and have reliable transportation.
If you wish to be considered for a permanent teaching position, you must need the money, and be dependable and available for work; this is a permanent job, it is not a "gig" until something else comes along.
If you would like to be considered as a substitute teacher, we would like it a lot if you can specify which days of the week you might be available; it need not be every day.
We teach private lessons from 3:00 to 7:30, Monday through Thursday afternoons. We will work out an acceptable schedule with you; we have several teachers with regular fulltime jobs as well. You need not be available every day of the week. If you would be interested in teaching a group class, we would possibly like to offer some of these in morning and early afternoons in the summer, if that would work into your schedule better.
We offer a great creative environment, a strong hourly salary and employee purchase program.
Sales
Inside/Counter/Web
We are interested in speaking to individuals who might seek an entry level sales position with our growing company. Opportunities exist for someone with a strong computer, web and Ebay background; this person would be responsible for creating appropriate ad copy, videoing or photographing, and adding for sale items to our Ebay auctions; following through on sales, packing and shipping items we have in stock, or ordering and shipping items to the consumer directly from the distributor as needed. The candidate will be editing our company website from time to time. This person would also be able to sell to walk in customers, answer the phone, and perform general customer service duties. A background in guitar would be extremely helpful. The candidate would also need to have an easy going attitude, and be able to work well in difficult situations. This job pays a small hourly base, plus commission.
Outside
We are interested in talking to you if you have a background in any of the following: selling to schools, churches, colleges, local or state government, non-profit groups, or music stores. Our most immediate need is for someone to call on churches and schools to set appointments to evaluate their sound systems. If you have a semi-technical background in sound systems and/or equipment, that would be ideal. This job could have flexible hours, and you could do it from home for the most part. This job pays a straight 20% commission on what you sell.
If you are interested in working with us, please fill out and submit the information form below, and Mr. Norton will contact you to set up an immediate interview. Thanks for your interest.
